Feeding Horses
The recommended feeding rate is shown in the chart below. Do not feed free choice. If you feed by dry measure, periodically weight the feed to ensure that the proper amount is being fed. Observe the condition of your horse over a period of time. The recommended feeding rates may be increased or decreased by 10% to keep your horse in the desired condition. Changes in feed or feeding rate should be made gradually over several days. Feed at regular times at least twice daily. If horse is hot, excited, or ill, delay feeding. Do not allow horse to over-consume or eat rapidly.

Rabbit Feed Performance Pellets is a high energy feed containing additional nutrients required for optimum reproduction, growth & appearance.
This ration may be fed as the sole ration or it may be fed with good quality legume hay or fresh grass. The feeding rates suggested below are based on the assumption that no hay or grass is used. If hay or grass is fed free choice, reduce the quantity of this ration fed daily to approximately 1/2 the amount recommended below, then adjust the feeding rate as necessary to maintain the desired condition of the rabbit.
DOES AND LITTERS: Limit feed to pregnant does to 3 to 5 ounces per day during the first two-thirds of their pregnancy to control weight gain. During the last third of pregnancy, gradually increase the quantity of feed to a level approaching free choice at kindling. Feed free choice to lactating does and their litters. Lactating does should consume 4 to 8 ounces per day depending upon their size and condition. The doe and her litter will consume considerably more as the bunnies mature.
DRY DOES, HERD BUCKS, AND PETS: Excessive weight gain in rabbits is one factor that affects health and fertility. Control excessive weight gains by limiting the feed to approximately 3 to 5 ounces per day. Adjust the feeding rate to maintain the desired weight.
WEANED BUNNIES: Litters should be weaned from the doe as soon as they are eating freely or as soon as the doe is without milk or is bred. For maximum weight gains, feed weaned bunnies Rabbit Star Performance Pellets free choice as the sole ration.
SOME IMPORTANT MANAGEMENT PRACTICES:
• Changes in feed should be made gradually. Sudden changes may make the rabbits sick or cause death. When changing from one feed to another, start by mixing 1/4 of the new feed with 3/4 of the old feed. Continue to mix the feeds over a five- to six-day period, gradually increasing the amount of the new feed until the rabbits are eating it entirely.
• Feed regularly. One, two, or three feedings per day may be used. The time of feeding each day is more important than the number of feedings. Since rabbits eat mostly at night, late afternoon or evening feeding is preferred.
• Provide plenty of fresh, clean, cool water at all times.
• Follow a strict sanitation and health program. Consult your local veterinarian or your Country Agricultural Extension Service for advice.

WEANED BUNNIES: Litters should be weaned from the doe as soon as they are eating freely or as soon as the doe is without milk or is bred. Feed free choice to weaned bunnies.
BREEDING ANIMALS & PETS: To prevent breeding animals and pets from gaining excessive weight, limit feed to approximately 4 to 6 ounces per day. Adjust the feeding rate to maintain the desired condition.

Top Of The Rockies Horse Cubes can be used effectively as the sole source of roughage for all classes of animals. Horses that are fed alfalfa cubes tend to eat all the cubes provided, whereas horses fed long-stem alfalfa hay will sort through the hay and not eat the hay offered. Research in Colorado reported that mature horses fed alfalfa cubes maintained their body weight better than horses fed equal amounts of long-stem hay.
Normally horses will eat between 1.5 to 2.5% of their body weight per day (this includes forage and grain). Heavily lactating mares, intensively worked mature horses and younger weaned horses (4 to 18 months of age) can consume up to 3% of their body weight per day. The amount may vary depending on the animal's needs and activity
Grains and/or supplements may be fed if necessary for a desired body condition but you will always want to provide plenty of clean fresh water. The cubes may also be soaked for those animals that have dental issues or respiratory problems.

Feed colostrum for the first three days. For best results, it is important to get colostrum into the calf as soon as possible after birth. To be sure that the calf receives colostrum, it may be advisable to feed the calf directly rather than allowing the calf to nurse. This first feeding should be 3 to 4 lbs. in the first hour of life. The colostrum should be continued for three days at the rate of about 7-8% of body weight.
After the third day, start feeding Lone Star Calf Milk Replacer according to the directions below. These directions are intended only as a guide. The feeder must use his good judgement when feeding calves. Calves will vary in feed requirements, depending on size or health of the calf. Any changes in feeding level should be made gradually. If a calf scours, milk intake should be restricted or eliminated for one or two feedings.
TWICE A DAY FEEDING: Mix Lone Star Calf Milk Replacer at the rate of 1 cup per 1 quart of warm water (120° F) or 1 pound (4 cups) to 1 gallon of warm water. Mix thoroughly. Feed 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 quarts of the above mixture (reconstituted milk replacer) twice a day, depending on the health and size of the calf. A 100 lb. healthy calf should receive about 2 quarts of the reconstituted milk replacer. Feed Lone Star Calf Milk Replacer as long as you would normally feed whole milk, or until weaning. The calf can be weaned when it meets the following three criteria:
1. Be at least 4 weeks of age.
2. Have gained 20% of its birth weight.
3. Have consumed at least one pound of Lone Star Calf Starter
Developer per day for 3 consecutive days.
Lone Star Calf Starter Developer should be introduced before the end of the first week. It is important that the calf starter be kept fresh. Hay of high quality may be introduced at the end of the second week, but it is not necessary until after weaning. Corn silage should not be fed during the first two months.
Supplement for horses and cattle on pasture.
FEEDING DIRECTIONS: Feed free choice as a supplement to horses and cattle grazing adequate forage. Provide a source of fresh, clean water at all times along with Lone Star Kal-Phos 12-12 Mineral Supplement. Consumption of this block should be approximately 1 to 2 pounds per head per day. The following guidelines should be followed to ensure adequate consumption:
Provide one 200 pound block for every 10 to 13 head of cattle.
Place blocks near water source or loafing areas. Make blocks available in more than one location in large pastures. If consumption is too high, move the blocks farther away from the water source and loafing areas, reduce the number of blocks if necessary to control consumption.
Maintain a consistent supply of blocks. Do not feed to deprived animals as over-consumption may result.
INTRODUCTORY PERIOD:
Following a 7 to 10 day acclimation period, average consumption
should be 1 to 2 pounds per head per day for mature cattle with
unrestricted forage supplies. Position the blocks 50 to 75 feet from
loafing, feeding and watering areas. Some repositioning of blocks may
be necessary as animals become acclimated to the presence of the
blocks. Move blocks closer to increase consumption; further away to
decrease consumption. If overconsumption occurs for more than two
weeks and repositioning of blocks does not correct the situation,
remove blocks and evaluate the overall feeding program. DO NOT
ALLOW STARVED ANIMALS FREE ACCESS TO THIS BLOCK.
FEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Provide 1 block per 5 head. All animals should have equal
access to blocks. Timid and smaller animals need their share.
2. Place blocks where animals congregate. Locate blocks throughout
the pasture at loafing, grazing, feeding and watering areas.
Adequate distance must be maintained between blocks to minimize
crowding – 10 feet minimum.
3. Feed blocks continuously along with a plentiful source of forage and
clean, fresh water. Cattle should not run out of blocks. When a block
is two-thirds consumed, provide a new block near it. Place very small
pieces in a feed trough to be cleaned up.
4. Cattle should consume 1 to 2 pounds per head daily based on a
1,000-pound animal.
5. Consumption of this block may vary depending upon animal body
condition, quality and quantity of forages, seasonal weather
conditions, and most importantly, feeding locations of blocks with
respect to loafing, grazing, feeding and watering areas.
6. If additional mineral and vitamin fortification is desired, provide an
appropriate free choice mineral supplement in addition to this
supplement.
CAUTION: USE AS DIRECTED. Do not feed to horses. Consumption
of selenium should not exceed 3 mg per head daily.
WARNING: This product, which contains added copper, should not exceed 3mg per head, per day.
